About
This still life painting was first exhibited in the 1777 Salon hang. Painted at the height of Valayer-Coster's artistic career, it is characteristic of her most notable depictions of flower arrangements. The range of contrasting colors is compatible with the subtleties in lighting, causing the lighter colors in the forefront to become brighter. The royal blue vase and gold trim add her characteristic ornamental decor and bring out the exquisite details of the floral arrangement. The flowers on the pedestal even suggest the already stunning arrangement was not complete.
