About
In her time at American University, Thomas started experimenting with and creating Color Field paintings. Watusi (Hard Edge) is an example of her Color Field Abstract paintings. It depicts colorful geometric shapes framed by similar blue shapes set in a white background. This painting is a manipulation of Matisse’s The Snail. Thomas shifted the shapes around and changed the colors to capture her creative spirit and take on the painting. In addition, she named the painting after a song by Chubby Checker, an American rock and roll singer to reflect her own time and culture.
