Many women stepped up to complete work that was necessary for the war effort, that would have been typically performed by men, but with such a large portion of the male population away at war, was done by women during the second world war. Women of color were not exempt from this, and in fact played a very large role in the war effort both at home and abroad. With her hair tied up in the iconic “Rosie the Riveter” bandana, handling a drill in an industrial setting. Juxtaposing the masculine atmosphere is her nail polish, lipstick and jewelry.
