About
Sunny, the family dog of the Katz, is portrayed sitting in the tall grass along the coast with its tongue sticking out of its mouth. The dog’s ears break free from the confines of the painting, too large to be contained, they could carry on far beyond the edge of the composition. The ears are so long in fact, that they cut the painting in half, dividing the land in the foreground from the water in the distance, tiptoeing along the line between realism and abstraction, as Katz was well known for.
