Veranda is a serene double portrait with themes commonly found throughout the artist’s oeuvre. What appears to be a husband and wife relax on their outdoor veranda with a large black dog lounging sleepily beneath them. While the woman is carefully engaged in an act of reading the newspaper, the man gazes out toward the nearly monochrome landscape beyond the veranda’s screen. Domesticity, married couple dynamics, and leisure are all common interests for Colville, who masterfully combines them in Veranda.
