Man on Verandah is a chillingly still portrait of a pensive-looking man and a similarly pensive cat in the background. The signature eerie stillness with which Colville executes the composition further adds to the works haunting quality. Although both the man and the distant feline seem to be lost in thought, their gaze shares neither a direction nor focus, showing each of them as present in the same physical space while both mentally preoccupied.
