About
In this snowy portrait, Colville depicts a man and a woman trekking through the snow in snowshoes. as the woman turns to look behind her, the man gazes directly out at the viewer. It is common for Colville to show figures in somewhat of anti portrait manner, often by covering or turning their faces. Although the frontal gaze of the man is relatively atypical, Colville heavily shields the man’s identity with large reflective sunglasses and a hooded sweatshirt. The discomfort caused by the man’s confrontational gaze is compounded by his obscured identity.
