About
This obscured portrait, Dog and Priest, features a man, whom the title informs us is a priest, and ostensibly his dog gazing out to a large body of water. The obscured nature of the priest’s face, the bright orange eye of the dog, and the nondescript location of this painting all contribute to its air of surrealism. The painting also highlights Colville’s interest in landscape motifs, as well as his near-pointillist sensibility for detail.
