About
A common theme in Colvile’s work, two domestic animals are shown together in Dog and Cat. A striped cat leans into its small dish while a considerably larger dog stands guard in front of the cat, looking outward in an alert manner. Although the two animals are the main focus of the composition, as indicated by the title, they are shown in front of a pair of human legs. The three seem to coexist nicely in the ostensibly domestic space.
