About
In his iconic work, Couple on Beach (1957), Colville makes use of his pointillist-style realism in this obscured double portrait of the artist and his wife, Rhonda. Colville faces away from the viewer and out at the sea, while his wife’s face is covered by a sunhat. The composition of the painting was also ordered according to the Fibonacci principle of a golden rectangle, with the squatting male figure as the central piece.
