About
Created during his second trip to Italy, Durer’s portrait showcases a young woman, her lips curved in a small smile, posing against a black background. The top part of the woman’s orange and red, gold-crossed patterned gown and her black-and-white pearled necklace appear brightly against her white skin. During this portrait’s creation, Durer had begun exploring different forms of artistic styles outside of woodcutting and engravings.
