These four woodcuts (from Durer’s Small Passion series) showcases the events of Christ before the Pilate, Christ presented to Herod’s court, Christ tied to a pillar and whipped by men, and a seated Christ wearing the crown of thorns. The figure of Christ prominently appears in each image and is shown looking downwards with a silent expression on His face. Following the Biblical events, Durer’s artworks move Christ back and forth from the crowded outside landscape to the compressed atmosphere of the interior settings.
