Durer’s image of the Last Supper shows a seated Christ (His head tilted down) surrounded by his disciples in a boxed interior. Illuminated with light from behind, Christ’s position at the table places Him within the line of sight of the viewer. The simply designed backdrop (made up of dots and dashes) juxtaposes the detailed figures of the disciples (most of whom look on at Christ as He speaks).
