About
One of twenty woodcuts from his series Life of the Virgin, Durer's Flight into Egypt, shows the escape of the virgin on a donkey's back. Around her, protruding trees make up the landscape while winged angels peek from the clouds above. The tree shown to the virgin's left, detailed in scaly bark and bushy fronds, showcases Durer's interpretation of the "exoticness" of Egypt.
