About
Bierstadt’s painting showcases the scenic view of Yosemite Valley. Sunlight peeks out from behind a blocked cliffside, its half-shown shape reflecting off of the image’s waters. In the foreground, a small group of deer drink and gaze across the landscape. Described as the American “Garden of Eden,” Bierstadt went on to produce several paintings that exhibited Yosemite’s lush natural atmosphere.
