About
The Rocky Mountains, Lander’s Peak shows a panoramic view of the mountains and its surrounding natural landscape. The exhibition of this painting in 1863 garnered Bierstadt critical praise and recognition. The artwork displays his impressive abilities in showcasing the lush vastness of the (then still unknown) American West. In the image, the Shoshone are depicted with their horses, resting near the clear surface of a lake. Behind them, the rocky and misted cliffside blends against the light blue sky.
