About
Bierstadt's painting showcases the lightly colored and clouded landscape of Yosemite Valley. In the foreground, a family of deer walk near a lake's edge while across from them, a leafy forest disappears into the backdrop's mist. Above, a rocky cliffside becomes obstructed by the overhanging fog. Bierstadt helped to spark tourism and nature preservation campaigns for Yosemite Valley through the exhibitions of his artworks.
