About
Bierstadt’s Across the Prairie displays the circular sun, resting in the center of the painted sky, illuminating and reflecting off of the prairie’s natural landscape. Though fogged clouds obscure the blue atmosphere, the bright sunlight cuts through and creates a line of white on the winding river’s surface. Trees detailed with soft red and green leaves catch the edges of the sun’s golden glow, their trunks remaining shadowed to the viewer’s eyes.
