<p>The full title of this work is "Japanese relocation, California. Maye Noma, behind the plate, and Tomi Nagao, at bat, in a practice game between members of the Chick-a-dee softball team, which was kept intact when the players were evacuated from Los Angeles to Manzanar, California, a War Relocation Authority Center for evacuees of Japanese ancestry." </p>
<p>Dorothea Lange was hired by the U.S. government to document the "evacuation" and "relocation," now known as the internment of Japanese Americans. Her work was confiscated by the military when they realized that she was sympathetic to the plight of the internees and her photos were not released until 2006.</p>

May 1942–Three Japanese-American girls with suitcases, who have just arrived by train from Elk Grove and who will be transported by bus from Lone Pine to Manzanar, a war relocation authority center where they will remain for the duration of war." </p>
<p>Dorothea Lange was hired by the U.S. government to photograph the Japanese Americans who were incarcerated in American internment and concentration camps. Because her work was seen as being sympathetic, the photos were seized and largely unseen until 2006.</p>
