1000 Museums

More than 125 years ago Judge E.B. and Margaret Crocker linked the capital of the new state of California to the culture of Europe by collecting, commissioning, and exhibiting art. Established in 1885, the Crocker Art Museum was the first public art museum founded in the Western United States.
In 2010, the Crocker opened the 125,000-square-foot Teel Family Pavilion. The classic, contemporary design of the Pavilion complements the historic structures. The expansion more than tripled the Museum\’s size, allowing for the display of more works of art and enhanced public programming.

Now with art on view from six continents and spanning the ancient to the contemporary, the Crocker Art Museum is still creating new links between California and the world. The Museum features one of the country’s finest collections of Californian art, exceptional holdings of master drawings, a comprehensive collection of international ceramics, as well as European, Asian, African, and Oceanic art. The Museum offers a diverse spectrum of special exhibitions, events, and programs to augment its collections.
