1000Museums & Museum Store Products

Owners of Art Authority and 1000Museums
have acquired Museum Store Products

The 4 partners (Alan Oppenheimer, Stanley Smith, Mac Holbert and Jim Teece) behind Art Authority and 1000Museums.com have purchased 100% of Museum Store Products from Wood Huntley.  Wood will stay on as Vice President of Sales for Museum Store Products and continue to work with his clients on a day to day basis.

Museum Store Products started 38 years ago when Wood Huntley and his wife Beirne were on the floor of their home laminating photos and making magnets to sell to The Philadelphia Museum of Art. Over the years, he has grown Museum Store Products into one of the largest and most respected names in the industry. His company has grown to 25 employees, working hard everyday, in a 10,000 SQFT manufacturing facility in rural New Jersey to produce millions of Made in the USA Magnets, Posters, Postcards, Mugs, Notebooks, Journals, Ornaments and much, much more.

“It’s been a fun ride and I have made the best friends,” reflects Wood on his life’s work, “I am proud of what we built together but it’s time for me to sell the business and focus on what I love doing most… Selling the amazing products we make at Museum Store Products to all of my friends in the Museum world.”

“I picked Alan, Stanley, Mac and Jim because I had seen what they did with Art Authority and 1000Museums.com and watched how they not only fixed that business but grew it as well. They have been in this market for 15 years and have a great reputation, take care of their employees and customers and have great ideas on how to excite and energize the museum store industry. I really look forward to working with them as Vice President of Sales.”

#BetterTogether

Pluses

Art Authority was created with the advent of the iPhone in 2007. Alan and Jim came together and developed over 100 apps in the app store.

The one that did the best and was featured by Apple on stage as one of 10 apps that will change education, was Art Authority.

1000Museums was a failed dot com that was purchased by the 4 partners above in 2016. Bringing together each of their skills they quickly turned the company around, paid back unpaid royalties and salvaged some important museum relationships, all while maintaining its focus on quality.

Leveraging over 100 years of combined business and imaging experience they quickly turned the company into a profitable one that paid royalties on time and delivered museum quality reproductions to clients around the world.

Museum Store Products fits perfectly into our strategy in many ways.

  1. It is on the East Coast. So now we cover both coasts.
  2. We don’t overlap much. Our product mix enhances and extends offerings to each of the museums we serve.
  3. They have a great team and a great reputation. We don’t plan on making many changes.
  4. Wood will still be around everyday to mentor us and help grow our companies.

“We are honored to have been chosen by Wood and Beirne to take over the reigns of the highly respected company that they have built over the last 38 years,” said Jim Teece, one of the owners, “I have over 33 years experience in running companies and I look forward to working with Wood in his new role as VP of Sales and the rest of the amazing team he has in place in the New Jersey factory in my role as President of Museum Store Products.”

“I am really looking forward to seeing how 1000Museums and Museum Store Products can work together to further our mutual mission of helping museums thrive,” said Alan Oppenheimer, one of the new owners and managing partner at Art Authority and 1000Museums.

Key Points

  1. 1000Museums and Museum Store Products are now under joint ownership but will each operate independently and cooperatively.
  2. Each company will remain under the same industry-focused leadership with over 50 years of experience combined.
  3. The companies have complementary product lines: from magnets and mugs through custom-framed archival prints, and everything in between.
