Wanda Koop

Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Koop is the daughter of Russian-Mennonite immigrants who fled to Canada during the Russian Revolution. Koop has gained recognition as a painter and a video artist, as well as a community activist. She has produced over 60 solo exhibitions around the world (with exhibits in North America, South America, Europe, and Asia) and has received awards such as the Queen Elizabeth II Golden and the Diamond Jubilee Medals. She was also appointed a Member of the order of Canada (Canada\’s highest civilian order). In 1998, Koop created a program known as \”Art City\” that encourages children to work with contemporary artists in the inner city of Winnipeg.\”
