Vladimir Lukich Borovikovsky was a Ukrainian artist during the time when his country was part of the Russian Empire. He worked in the Imperial Court for Catherine the Great and was renowned for his portraits of the Empress and her court. His were often intimate portrayals rather than formal sittings.
