Vanessa Bell, the older sister of famed author Virginia Woolf, was a central figure in the Bloomsbury Group, a group of artists, writers, and intellectuals in mid-20th Century London. Bell’s early career was influenced by exposure to impressionist and post-impressionist exhibitions, manifesting in her loose brushwork and vibrant color palette. In her mid-career, Bell turned toward abstraction and remains today as an important figure in modern painting.
