""

An Iranian contemporary artist, Shirin Neshat primarily works in photography, video, and film. She moved to Los Angeles to study art in the 70s, and immediately afterward the Iran Islamic Revolution began which shaped her work tremendously. Her work has never been shown in Iran, but it serves to amplify the voices of Iranian women and explores the taboos of her culture. Although her work is highly politicized, she has stated that her goal is rather to create an emotional connection with the women in her art.
