Niki de Saint Phalle

October 29, 1930 - May 21, 2002

Niki de Saint Phalle was a French artist who originally began making art as a form of therapy but eventually became a member of the Nouveau Realismé movement and a well known feminist artist. Her famous “nanas” are a series of life-sized papier maché dolls that depict women of different sizes, shapes, and colors doing various things. She was inspired by Antoni Gaudí’s Park Güell and created her own garden, Il Giardino dei Tarocchi (The Tarot Garden) in Tuscany.
