Maud Gatewood was a postwar and contemporary American artist of many mediums and styles, focusing on a variety of subject matters. A North Carolina native, she journeyed all over the world and gained perspective from her travels which she applied to her ever-changing artworks. Her experimental and creative approach to her works resulted in landscapes, portraits, and architectural pieces in abstract to realist styles. She is known for her paintings but also excelled in a wide variety of mediums such as printmaking. Gatewood was highly involved in her communities and taught at several universities, staying in North Carolina until her passing.
