Mary Lovelace O’Neal



Painter and social activist Mary Lovelace O’Neal was born in Jackson, Mississippi in 1942. O’Neal attended Howard University and became active in the Civil Rights Movement. She went on to Columbia University and continued her fine arts education, getting involved in the Black Art Movement. Her work focuses on abstracted mixed-media and minimalism. O’Neal now lives in Oakland, California.
