Mary Jane Peale, a New York native, was an American painter. Peale is known for her still-life and portraiture works. Coming from a family of painters including Rubens Peale, Charles Willson Peale, and Rembrandt Peale– Mary Jane Peale is known as the last famous painter of the family. Mary Jane Peale is credited for teaching the art of painting to her father, Rubens Peale, and also known to have finished his incomplete pieces which he left behind after his death. Mary Jane Peale’s works can be found in prestigious art institutions such as the Pennsylvania Museum of Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Sheldon Museum of Art, and the Westmoreland Museum of Art.
