Marlene Dumas is a contemporary artist who began her career studying visual arts in South Africa but now lives and works in the Netherlands. Her recent works are primarily in oil or ink, but she has also done collages and installations. She often draws inspiration and material from the print media through polaroids or newspaper clippings, and with them addresses themes such as race, sexuality, and violence. In 1995, she represented Holland at the Venice Biennale.
