""

Jean Richard Goubie was a French painter, well known during his time for his genre paintings and serene depictions of nature. Born on January 12, 1842, he would study under Gérôme at l’Ecole des Beaux-Arts. He would catch his instructor’s eye and join him, along with seven other artists and a few journalists, on an 1868 expedition to Egypt, Palestine, Syria, and more of Asia Minor. His work would be influenced by this trip, including his attempt to capture the heat of these lands in his paintings. Equestrian paintings were his favorite works to paint, and feature most prominently in his body of work. A year after the expedition to Asia Minor, he would make his debut at the Salon, and would continue to display throughout the rest of his life. In 1874, he won a 3rd class medal from the Salon. He would die in September 1899.
