James Tissot
""
Artist Jacques-Joseph Tissot was born in 1836, in Nantes, a French coastal town. Although he had an affinity for nautical paintings, his work turned toward contemporary scene paintings in the 1860s after meeting James McNiell Whistler, one of the most celebrated figures of 19th century art. It was around this time that Tissot also befriended Impressionist painter Edgar Degas. He ultimately became famous painting fashionably dressed women shown in various scenes of everyday life.
