Herbert Gentry (1919-2003) is known for his vibrant expressionist paintings of figures & faces, and for mixing global influences with the African American experience. After serving in World War II, Herb Gentry attended art school in Paris. Although he moved to Scandinavia in 1959, he always had a studio in Paris, France. In 1969, he returned to New York and became a resident of the Chelsea Hotel yet continued to paint and exhibit on both sides of the world.
