French Illustrator Georges Barbier was born in Nantes, France, on October 16th, 1882. He attended the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, learning under French painter Jean-Paul Laurens. Barbier worked during the Art Deco period, a time that saw a strong development between fashion and decoration. Due to the commercial failure of Art Nouveau during the First World War, French designers recognized the opportunity to rejuvenate and reestablish their role in the luxury trades.
