Franklin Carmichael (1890-1969) was a Canadian landscape painter and was a member of the Group of Seven. Carmichael was born and grew up in Ontario, Canada. His artistic abilities were encouraged by his parents from a young age. He started by decorating carriages for his father’s business and trained at the Ontario School of Art. He also studied at the Academie des Beaux-Arts in Belgium but returned to Canada early due to WWI. He founded the Canadian Group of Painters. Carmichael specialized in watercolors and landscapes. He was one of the younger members of the Group of Seven. Franklin Carmichael died in 1945.
