Édouard Manet was born into an upper middle class family in Paris. As a young man, Manet was fascinated by the world of art and forged a dream of one day becoming a painter. His style was characterized by loose brush strokes and reduction a detail, giving many of his paintings a unique style. Manet was one of the first groundbreaking artists to paint modern life, offering a new perspective on what professional art might look like. He is also credited with supplementing the transition from Realism to Impressionism, permanently changing the course of modern art for artists that followed in his footsteps.
