Without any formal training, Bill Hutson began creating abstract paintings in the early 1960s while he was an assistant to Frank N. Ashley. This apprenticeship was Hutson’s introduction to fine art.
Hutson is also known by his formal name, William R. Hutson. He was born and grew up in San Marcos, Texas, but when his parents both died when he was young, he and his siblings were raised by family members. After moving to New York in 1963, Hutson spent the next 40 years traveling to more than twenty-six countries, much of his art may be found in European museums. He was known for his abstract art, usually paintings and collage.
