Dox Thrash was known for his depictions of black Americans during the Great Depression. His art followed the New Negro Movement, which was a sub-movement of the Harlem Renaissance, which saw a flourishing of African-American Art during the Great Depression. This hauntingly personal portrait depicts a young boy with enormous eyes staring straight at the viewer. The visible strokes of the artist reveals his technique, while the title suggests this boy is not human at all.
