Dorothea Lange was known for her documentary photography of American life during the Great Depression. Her poignant photographs honestly depict the lives of those most affected by the country's harsh economic downturn. This busy image depicts a group of men in conversation on the porch of a rural general store. The photograph features many graphic advertisements on the front porch of the store, such as Coca-Cola and Camel cigarettes, the commercialization of which contrasts with the plain, agriculture atmosphere.
