This 1866 print depicts black soldiers returning home from war to Little Rock Arkansas from the battlefront of the Civil War. Families greet their soldiers, couples embrace, and the overall tone is warm and animated. The print not only reiterates the important and hearty contribution of Black Americans to the war effort, while the setting of Little Rock is particularly interesting, since it later became a hotbed of civil rights progress in the mid-twentieth century, almost 100 years after this print was originally created.
